WDAS monthly meetings conclude on May 5th for this current season, starting again after the summer recess. Held at the usual venue, Whitby School, Prospect Hill site, room H1, main block, the start time is 7:30pm.

At the May meeting, following our usual review of the night sky, society updates, and up-coming plans, we'll also explore some of the most notable celestial highlights you can view during the summer.

Since we ran out of time at April's meeting, Mark will now give his presentation on essential equipment required for visual observation—especially eyepieces—and explain why careful selection is important to achieve the best results.

The principles of eyepiece design and relevant terminology will be outlined, with explanations of how online observing tools can facilitate informed decisions when selecting a suitable eyepiece at a reasonable cost. Additionally, Mark will demonstrate that items offered under various names and price points on different astronomy equipment websites may often originate from the same manufacturer, thereby presenting opportunities for significant cost savings if sourced informatively.
