Mark was asked by staff to give a talk for science week at Whitby Library on March 8th.  The subject matter was 'time', which Mark related to stellar distances.  Audience participation was required, although the scale solar system ended between Saturn and Uranus, having run out of room.  The gathering was fairly small, and all ages, but they appeared to take something away from the talk.

On March 19th, Mark and Richard gave a presentation at the new Mayfield Residential Care Centre, where Richard's wife is co-events co-ordinator/organiser.  The evening proved most interesting, not only for viewing the interior of the brand-new centre (very nice) and utilising the purpose-built screening room, but also talking to the staff and patrons.  Mark used a mixture of images, planetarium programme apps, and power point presentations to illustrate various topics.  The Earth-Moon scale demo was attempted but a corridor wall intervened.  The 'paper edge' scale AU demo was utilised instead to demonstrate stellar distances.  Meteorites were passed around, with a question-and-answer session. The forthcoming total solar eclipse in the US was demonstrated with the SN pro 8 app, with instructions to staff to set up the screening system on April 8th - the date of the eclipse and tap into a live media feed of the event.

It was an enjoyable evening, one that we hope will be repeated.  No images unfortunately.
