Monthly society meetings have now recommenced, the next one being on Tuesday February 7th. The venue is Caedmon College - Normanby Campus (formerly Whitby College) room H1 from 19:30hrs.

If you are new to the area and would like to join the society, or have become interested in the night sky and want to take 'one small step', please do come along, you will be very welcome.  Meetings normally follow the format of a review of the night sky that month, plus upcoming celestial events, coupled with a talk or presentation on some particular aspect or other associated with the night sky. Meetings end by 21:15hrs. The February meeting will focus on the winter clusters visible and comet E3. The March meeting is also on the 7th.

Sunday evening open nights at the Bruce Observatory have also recommenced. As usual the weather often throws a spanner in our observing works, but when co-operative views of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars and the Moon have been quite spectacular. Saturn has departed. Scheduled dates in February are 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th all from 19:15hrs. Open nights are on paper, every Sunday (barring one or two exceptions) until well into April. They are weather dependant, so if you are intending coming along, please contact Mark on the day. The Bruce observatory is also located at the Normanby Campus, at the bottom of the drive (the conical domed building).

Please note: the College drive gate now operates via an electric key code number. In other words, on Sunday's unless you are there for 19:15hrs, or contact Mark with a pre-arranged arrival time, you may have to flash lights and beep car horn (if in vehicle), or shout to attract our attention as the gates will be closed!
